Madrid Day 3 (Spain Day 7)

I can't believe I have been in Spain an entire week! I love it here! I love my travel team and our partners in Madrid! Today was such a great day!

We started the day bright and early at Down Madrid, a publicly funded school for children up to age 21 who have special needs. The place was so cool! Both the students and staff were so happy and positive. The school combined education, therapies of all kinds and life-skill building all into one amazing building!

After Down Madrid we headed to Madrid's Red Cross to learn about their programs, which went past emergency and disaster preparedness to providing real social services on the day to day for people who are in life-emergency situations. The facilities were state-of-the-art!

My favorite part of the day, however, was going to get the Nun-Cookies..."Nun-Cookies?" You ask. Yes, nun-cookies: We went to the Convent de Corpus Cristi, where there are cloistered nuns (nuns who cannot leave the convent or be seen by outsiders, who bake cookies and give them to patrons who ring a little bell to be allowed into the convent walls, and then hand the cookies to you through a roundabout. You never see their faces! It is one of the coolest try experiences of my life! The cookie were not cheap but more than worth this amazing experience!

After that amazing experience some of my students and I went for a nice sit down dinner, Spain has Menu's of the Day, where you get a multi course meal for an amazing deal ($8-15), we had an amazing Paella meal! And now I am pooped! Tomorrow will be a super fun day, and I am going to make an early night of it so I can enjoy tomorrow!

Like a complete amateur, I leftone of my favorite coats on the bus today, but I didn't know it and thought I left it in the city, so I was pretty bummed. I just received a call they found it and will bring it to me tomorrow! I am one lucky duck!
